Producers David Hill and Reginald Hudlin have announced that actor, comedian Chris Rock was confirmed as the host of the 88th Academy Awards, the Oscars. He earlier hosted Oscars in 2005. Variety.com has reported that the announcement was made on Wednesday.
Hill and Hudlin said, “Comedian, actor, writer, producer, director, documentarian - he’s done it all. He’s going to be a phenomenal Oscar host!”
The last year’s telecast was hosted by Neil Patrick Harris and noe the veteran comedian will take over as host. Last year drew the lowest ratings of the show in six years, which was down 16% from the previous year’s Oscars.
Rock said he was thrilled about his upcoming stint as host. “I’m so glad to be hosting the Oscars. It’s great to be back.” On 28 February, the 2016 Oscars will be held at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood.
Christopher Julius "Chris" Rock III is an American actor, comedian, voice artist and producer. In a Comedy Central’s poll, Rock was voted the fifth-greatest stand-up comedian. On Channel 4’s 100 Greatest Stand-Ups in 2007 in the United Kingdom, he was voted as the ninth greatest stand-up comic. In the updated 2010 list, he was again the eighth greatest stand-up comic.
