‘Bunty Chor’ found guilty of burgling NRI house

A local court in Kerala found notorious criminal Devinder Singh aka Bunty Chor guilty in a case relating to the burglary at the house of an NRI businessman in Thiruvananthapuram.

The court will announce the quantum of punishment on April 22.

Bunty was involved in more than five hundred theft cases and managed to slip police on many cases, he carried out a burglary at a high-end security home with latest electronic surveillance devices of NRI businessman Venugopalan Nair in 2013.

Bunty cut through the bulletproof glass door to enter the house, he also deactivated two security alarms and surveillance camera and fled with an SUV worth 2.5 million rupees, a laptop, two cell phones, a gold ring and 2000 rupees cash.

Though Bunty deactivated the security alarm and surveillance camera he did not notice one of the hidden cameras behind a door that captured his image, which helped the Kerala police to locate him.

The suspect later abandoned the stolen SUV near Bengaluru next day. Police captured him from Pune after two days with the help of Maharashtra Police.

He later reportedly confessed the theft and said that he did to take revenge on Bollywood director Dibakar Banerjee, who directed a film in 2008‘Oye Lucky, Lucky Oye’, which was based on his life.

Bunty’s lawyer said to the court that his client was suffering from acute mental illness.

Bunty has more than 500 theft cases against him in different states across India. He also took part in the national television reality show Big Boss in 2010
