An Indian origin man in the United Arab Emirates allegedly stabbed his wife to death after a heated argument in a car park in Al Quoz on Monday.
The 43-year-old old man, identified as U.C, and his 39-year-old wife C. Vidhya Chandran moved to Dubai a one-and-a-half year ago and the couple’s daughters, aged 16 and 5, live in Kerala with the victim's parents.
Vidhya was supposed to arrive in India to celebrate Onam with family, victim’s brother Vinayachandran said.
Vinayachandran was quoted saying: "I had spoken to her just two days ago and she sounded excited about coming home for Onam and seeing her children. I still cannot believe she is no more."
Vidhya’s parents are devastated after hearing about their daughter’s death. "How can we console them? They are asking many questions about her for which I don't have any answers," the victim’s brother said.
He said that the family came to know about the incident through the victim's colleague who told them that the victim’s husband stabbed her in a car park in Al Quoz and that he is in police custody now. However, Vinayachandran was unclear about what happened exactly.
Vinayachandran alleged that his sister, who married almost 16 years ago, was in an abusive relationship and also said the man has been abusing the victim for a very long time. Vidhya also filed a police complaint against her husband for domestic abuse. Things got a little better after they appeared for counseling.
Vidhya was working in the finance department of a private company in Al Quoz. According to Vinayachandran’s statement, the victim’s husband also took a huge loan as they were under financial pressure, for which Vidhya left her job in Thiruvanathapuram and joined her husband in Dubai.
"We knew she was going through a difficult time. We decided to keep the children with us because of his abuse. But we did not expect that he would kill her," he said.
