Bars make Food and Wine's list of the best in U.S

Republic restaurant critic Howard Seftel named Crudo, at Indian School Road and 36th Street, Best Modern Italian Restaurant in azcentral’s Best 2013 Awards. Food and Wine highlighted Olson’s Dazed and Infused cocktail, with strawberry-spiked Aperol, passion fruit syrup, lime and sparkling wine.

Windsor, a neighborhood draw on Central and Oregon avenues, is owned by Upward Projects, which also operates ice-cream parlor Churn next door. The restaurant group’s other ventures are Federal Pizza in Phoenix; two Postino wine bar/restaurants in Phoenix and one in Gilbert; and Joyride Taco House in Gilbert (a Phoenix branch is set to open Jan. 7.)

Windsor and Crudo, co-owned by chef/owner Cullen Campbell, are two of the magazine’s top 33 bars in the U.S.. If you want to try them, both have drink specials. Stop by Windsor any day before 5 p.m. and try a cocktail for $5. Food and Wine recommends the No. 06, made of gin, strawberry syrup and apple cider vinegar.

At Crudo, cocktails are $5 during happy hour from 5-7 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays. Pair one drink with a dish from the $5 small-bite menu, such as crispy pig ears with Fresno chili vinaigrette or burrata with arugula and pancetta vinaigrette.
