‘Visit 15 Tourist Hubs in India Instead Holidaying Abroad’: PM Modi

Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi during his India’s 73rd Independence Day address from the Red Fort in New Delhi, called on Indians to visit at least 15 tourist destinations across India before 2022.
In a bid to promote domestic tourism, PM Modi underlined that India "has much to offer" to tourists.
"I know people travel abroad for holidays but can we think of visiting at least 15 tourist destinations across India before 2022, when we mark 75 years of freedom?" he said.

The number of Indians holidaying abroad particularly in the United States, the United Kingdom, and China, has been steadily on the rise.
As per official data, the number of foreign tourists coming to India is also going up. It totaled 8.80 million in 2016, 10.04 million the next year and 10.56 million (provisional) in 2018.
