Sleep is very important aspect for humans, after a long day from work, you need to rest your body and how much sleep you require, depends upon your age.
There is no perfect sleep duration that can fit every person, it depends upon various factors and age is one of them. The National Sleep Foundation has updated, its guidelines on how many hours of sleep people need according to their age.

Newborns (0-3 months): Sleep range 14-17 hours each day. New born babies need more sleep than adults do. To support their rapid mental and physical development
Infants (4-11 months): Sleep range 12-15 hours, you’ll notice a change in your babies sleep pattern from fourth month. This period is often called “four month regression”.
Toddlers (1-2 years): Sleep range from 11-14 hours, Sleep will gradually tend to decrease as your little one enters toddler hood, baby should sleep more at night than day.
Preschoolers (3-5): Sleep range widened by one hour to 10-13 hours, kindergartner who has outgrown napping, needs 10-13 hours sleep each night, time of sleep will gradually decrease as baby gets older.
School age children (6-13): Sleep range widened by one hour to 9-11 hours. At this age home work, games keeps kids busy, so it is important to enforce a regular bedtime routine.
Teenagers (14-17): Sleep range widened by one hour to 8-10 hours, Teenagers have the tendency to stay awake till late nights, which can effect their biological clocks and affect quality of their sleep.
Younger adults (18-25): Sleep range is 7-9 hours. In order to maintain daytime alertness, sound sleep is must important.
Adults (26-64): Sleep range should be 7-9 hours. Ventrolateral preoptic nucleus is a specific cluster of neurons, which helps in regular sleep pattern, The neurons slowly dies as you get aged, more of the cells you loose harder it gets to fall asleep.
Older adults (65+): Sleep range is 7-8 hours. Older adults sleep less than they require, they often have trouble falling asleep as Ventrolateral preoptic nucleus cells are less in number, it is harder to fall asleep.
