Constipation is a digestive issue that can leave individuals feeling fatigued and disoriented, among other effects. A two-ingredient remedy that may help alleviate this problem is a mix of papaya and chia seeds. Pratiksha Kadam, the Chief Dietitian at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Navi Mumbai, noted that chia seeds are rich in carunculous and gel diastases, allowing them to absorb liquid and form a gel-like consistency. This characteristic not only helps soften stools but also reduces the effort needed during bowel movements. Additionally, these seeds can help decrease intestinal inflammation and support the presence of galactolipids.

Kadam also highlighted that papaya is a powerful digestive aid, abundant in fiber and hydration. It contains an enzyme called Papain that assists with the breakdown of various proteins and enhances gut movement. For a digestive-friendly smoothie, she recommended blending fresh papaya with a tablespoon of chia seeds that have been soaked in water, a cup of water, and yogurt.

She emphasized that when consuming chia seeds, they should always be soaked in water for at least half an hour to avoid bloating and discomfort. Kadam also cautioned that excessive fiber intake can lead to symptoms like gas, bloating, or diarrhea, so it's important to be mindful of serving sizes. Furthermore, if chia seeds are not taken with sufficient fluids, their ability to absorb water can lead to discomfort.
