Akash Chopra Rabba Main Kya Karoon Movie Review and Rating

When the director of a National Award winning war-movie like “1971” is at the helm of things, it's quite natural to have big expectations. And when the credits are lined with comedy whiz like Paresh Rawal and Arshad Warsi, the expectation soars up. But sadly, director Amrit Sagar's rom-com “Rabba Main Kya Karoon” fails to impress! A senseless, not-so-comic caper, RMKK, guised in the garb of a love story, bets heavily on the oft-repeated premise of lavish Indian weddings, love gurus and everything wishy-washy. To add to that, the banal humor hurts the brain more than it tickles the rib. A lame attempt to capture big fat Indian wedding, Sagar's romantic comedy never really rises to the occasion.

Story

All the “tamasha” and the “taam jhaam” kicks off with a brief introduction of Saahil (Akash Chopra) and Sneha (Tahira Kochchar), followed by a love story that eventually culminates into marriage.

Next follows a lavish Punjabi style wedding marked by a week long celebration. As the story unspools languidly, with introduction of a new character, a new tale unfolds to keep the gag and interest alive. But how far the movie succeeds in doing so is a different story altogether!

The anxious and eager groom-to-be is keen to make his marriage work! He turns to his wicked cousin Shravan (Arshad Warsi) and uncles (Paresh Rawal, Shakti Kapoor and Tinnu Anand) for “gyaan” who tell him that for a marriage to be a success, one must cheat on his wife. Although reluctant in the beginning, Sahil eventually gets trapped as the scapegoat. And what follows is a series of confusing comedy that drives the film to its end.

Analysis :

 Rabba Main Kya Karoon-review

Armed with a wafer-thin script, incoherent screenplay and not-so-comic scenes, this trash of a film offers no amusement. Wonder what motivated the director to slog this hard on a done-to-death premise and dish out something so painfully mediocre. A coterie of not-so-funny family members, straight out of a vast Punjabi brethren, play hard to amuse, but the melodrama loses luster halfway. Even the music of the film is below par and sounds cacophony to the ears. The film’s climax is sheer crass, editing is shabby and music is very mediocre with no song having any shelf life.

Performance :

Newbies Akash and Tahira kick off their careers on a good note. Their debut attempt is pretty much laudworthy.

Arshad Warsi shines in his role and so does Paresh Rawal who delivers his best in the role of a fornicating husband.

Shakti Kapor tries too hard to humor you, but his gags simple lack luster. Other characters in the movie are just about okay.

Final Word: Rabba Main Kya Karoon, the title aptly lives up to the feeling it leaves you with at the end of it. It's an exercise in futile. Watch the movie for Arshad Warsi, if you plan to watch it at all!
