Five-time World champion Viswanathan Anand and Sergey Karjakin of Russia would be on spot light on the resumption of the World Chess Candidates tournament on 23 March 2016 in Moscow. After rest for a day, the tournament begins to finish the remaining five rounds.
All eyes would be on the joint leaders. Anand is the only one player to win three times in the tournament, while Karjakin is unbeaten. Bith of them have 5.5 points each. Anand is looking good with the way he has played a Magnus Carlsen-Anand Part III.
If the rating was considered solely, no one would have expected these two names to top the table by the end of the tournament. Only Peter Svidler of Russia is one of the 8 men in Moscow to have a lower rating compared to the leading two.
The results (ninth round): Viswanathan Anand (Ind) 5.5 bt Levon Aronian (Arm) 5; Anish Giri (Ned) 4.5 drew with Fabiano Caruana (US) 5; Hikaru Nakamura (US) 3.5 drew with Sergey Karjakin (Rus) 5.5; Veselin Topalov (Bul) 3 drew with Peter Svidler (Rus) 4.
The standings: 1-2. Karjakin and Anand 5.5; 3-4. Caruana and Aronian 5; 5. Giri 4.5; 6. Svidler 4; 7. Nakamura 3.5; 8. Topalov 3.
