The debate around the 2025 Champions Trophy is far from settled, and no decision has been made about the event's scheduling yet. India refused to visit Pakistan due to security concerns, sparking a major discussion on how the International Cricket Council (ICC) will handle this issue. A "hybrid" solution was suggested, where India could play their matches in Dubai, but no official announcement has been made. An ICC meeting planned for December had to be postponed due to disagreements on the way forward. This delay could result in the Champions Trophy being changed from an ODI tournament to a T20 format, which is easier and faster to market than the increasingly less relevant ODIs. Meanwhile, the Pakistan Cricket Board could face financial losses, legal action, and international isolation if it decides to withdraw from the ICC Champions Trophy due to the deadlock over the event's organization.

The PCB administrator stated that it would not be an easy decision for Pakistan to withdraw from ICC events, as they have already signed agreements with the ICC, including a mandatory Members' Participation Agreement (MPA) to receive a share of the revenue generated from these events. The administrator also noted that the ICC has made a guarantee that all member nations will be available to participate in their events, including the Champions Trophy, as part of the broadcast deal.
