Following a decisive 4-1 victory against England in a series consisting of five T20I matches, the Indian men's cricket team is set to compete against the side led by Jos Buttler in a series of three ODIs. These three 50-over games, arranged to take place in Nagpur, Cuttack, and Ahmedabad on February 6, 9, and 12, respectively, aim to aid both teams in gearing up for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, which is scheduled to be held from February 19 to March 9 across three locations in Pakistan and one in Dubai. Rohit Sharma, who has struggled significantly during the last three Test series, will captain the Indian squad in the three ODIs. Among those returning for the 50-over matches are notable players like Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer, and Kuldeep Yadav, although several standout performers from the recently wrapped up T20I series will not participate in India’s initial ODI series of 2025.

The ten individuals from the T20I team not included in the ODI series against England are Sanju Samson, Abhishek Sharma, Tilak Varma, Suryakumar Yadav, Ravi Bishnoi, Varun Chakaravarthy, Shivam Dube, Ramandeep Singh, Rinku Singh, and Dhruv Jurel. While Samson, Abhishek, Tilak, Surya, Bishnoi, and Chakaravarthy participated in all five matches of the shorter format series, Ramandeep did not get the opportunity to play in any game. Jurel and Dube appeared in two matches, while Rinku took part in three T20Is.

Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ravindra Jadeja, Rishabh Pant, and KL Rahul are returning to the Indian squad for the ODI series after being part of the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Additionally, star spinner Kuldeep Yadav, who last played in India's first Test against New Zealand in October 2024, along with Shreyas Iyer, whose previous match for India was on August 7, 2024, against Sri Lanka, are included in the ODI lineup.
