Indian top shuttler PV Sindhu scripted history by winning a gold medal in the Commonwealth Games after she defeated Michelle Li from Canada in the women's singles final. The Commonwealth Games 2022 reached the final day and India has a chance to win five golds. PV Sindhu won by 21-15, 21-13 in the game. This is the first gold medal for PV Sindhu in a women's singles in a multi-sport event. PV Sindhu was the former world champion and she won two olympic medals in the past. PV Sindhu also won a silver meda in Commonwealth games and Asian Games. PV Sindhu won silver in Rio Olympics 2016 and bagged a bronze in the Tokyo Olympics.
PV Sindhu won a gold medal in the mixed team event in the Commonwealth Games 2018. She also bagged a bronse medal in the Commonwealth Games 2014 in the women's singles. PV Sindhu had to sweat hard in the semi-final and it is an easy win in the final. Sindhu was attacking soon after the final commenced and she dominated the game completely. Michelle Li had to smile with frustration. Everyone felt that Michelle will make her comeback but it is a complete show of PV Sindhu. The nation lauded Sindhu for her outstanding work in the Commonwealth Games 2022.
"I had been waiting for this gold for a long time and finally I have got it. I am super happy. Thanks to the crowd, they made me win today," told Sindhu after the final.
