The life of a professional athlete is challenging. Most top-level athletes face immense pressure, both professionally and socially. Many have experienced downfalls in their sports careers. Maintaining composure can be difficult, and the pressure can sometimes lead to anxiety and depression. This was the case for English cricketer Graham Thorpe, who unfortunately took his own life recently. His wife later revealed that Thorpe had been struggling with mental health issues for a long time. Former Indian cricketer Robin Uthappa also shared his personal experience with depression, acknowledging that it was one of the toughest battles he had faced, even more so than his challenges on the cricket field. Uthappa aimed to break the silence around mental health and inspire others to prioritize their well-being, seek help, and find hope, even in the darkest of times.
Robin Uthappa began his video with a heartfelt tribute to Graham Thorpe and former India cricketer VB Chandrasekhar, who had also died due to mental health issues in 2019. Uthappa shared his own story, recalling how in 2011, he felt ashamed of himself and avoided looking in the mirror, feeling defeated and like his existence had become a burden. Uthappa noted that mental health challenges have also been seen in other sports, such as with former swimmer Michael Phelps, who had suicidal thoughts after a drunk driving incident, and gymnast Simone Biles, who withdrew from the Tokyo Olympics due to mental health concerns and continues to receive regular therapy.

Many famous people and sports stars base their self-esteem on their performance and achievements.
