Analysis
Nani has been selecting diverse scripts and ensuring that his consecutive films do not share the same genre. "Saripodhaa Sanivaaram" is an action drama with a unique theme, and Nani's performance in the lead role is excellent, with great support from the rest of the cast. However, the film has some negatives, such as dragged scenes and a somewhat routine commercial narrative at times. In commercial movies, directors often include a major action sequence and a confrontation between the protagonist and antagonist as the interval block, but then struggle to maintain that level of intensity in the second half. Vivek Athreya, the director of "Saripodhaa Sanivaaram," managed to overcome this challenge by skillfully incorporating Ajay Ghosh's storyline during the interval block, which allowed him to create well-written and effectively executed sequences in the second half.
The combination sequences between Nani, SJ Suryah, Murali Sharma, and Harsha Vardhan, along with Jakes Bejoy's background score, made the first part of the second half very fast-paced and thoroughly enjoyable. Although the sequences in the second half are somewhat routine, the brilliant acting abilities of the cast members made them work well. The writer and the director Vivek Athreya, effectively developed the characters and conflict in the film. His writing deserves special recognition, as the dialogues throughout the movie were well-written and meaningful. Athreya's ability to create humor using the characters of Saikumar and Harshavardhan is commendable. Another positive aspect of the film is that nearly every character has significance and purpose. The basic plot is simple and routine, but Vivek Athreya's exceptional screenplay made the film stand out from other commercial films. However, the editing could have been improved. While the introduction of the characters and their purpose was well-established, the director took nearly fifty minutes to do so. Additionally, the climax was slightly prolonged, and at least fifteen minutes of editing could have elevated the film to another level.
Performance
Nani's portrayal in the film was excellent. He excelled in emotional scenes with his mother, father, and sister characters, as well as in action sequences and confrontations with SJ Suryah and the 'Eega' episode with Priyanka Mohan. Nani also deserves praise for allowing the director to create a performance-driven, action-packed antagonist character. It is rare to see Nani overshadowed by another actor in a film. SJ Suryah's performance in an author-backed role in Saripodhaa Sanivaaram was brilliant, and he even dominated Nani in certain sequences. His comedic timing in a serious role was highly impressive.
Priyanka Mohan's role lacked the necessary depth and emotional connection. Sai Kumar, Ajay Ghosh, Murali Sharma, and Harshavardhan had good roles and made their presence felt. Abhirami as the hero's mother and Aditi Balan as the hero's sister played their parts well and added the required emotional element to the film. Jakes Bejoy's music was a mixed bag. The background score in the second half was very good, but it was too loud in the first half. The songs did not have much relevance in the film. The editing by Karthika Srinivas could have been better. The film could have been made more engaging and polished with just a bit more editing time. The cinematography by G Murali was well-executed. The production quality provided by DVV Movies was satisfactory.
Final Word
If you ignore some of the flaws, Saripodhaa Sanivaaram makes a decent watch this weekend. Nani and SJ Suryah delivered their best for Saripodhaa Sanivaaram.
