The chances of the survival of the Congress party in Telangana are grim in case if it fails to carve out Telangana state, said Congress MP from Bhuvanagiri, Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy.

Addressing the media, the MP who predicted the future of the party in the region, has demanded the Centre to stick to the statement announced on December 9 on the formation of separate state owing to the demands of the students.

MPs from Telangana region are taking out protests in their unique way for the past five days and it’s the first time in the country history that MPs stalled the parliament for five days on one cause, he added.

He appealed to the students not to commit suicides for Telangana but should come forward and fight for the cause.

It may be recalled that the union home minister P Chidambaram on December 9, 2009 declared-on behalf of the centre-that the process for the formation of the Telangana state would be initiated and the appropriate resolution would be moved in the assembly. The Centre, however, came out with another statement within two weeks stating that the situation in the state altered after the announcement and that it would decide on the issue after wide consultations. Political experts observed that the Centre’s flip flop on the issue led to a series of suicides in Telangana region.

Even many MPs from the same party stressed on the same fact and now it was Rajagopal Reddy’s turn to remind the Centre about party’s future in the state. (Phani)
