Arizona Government Doug Ducey’s budget calls for $75 million cut to the state’s universities. As per an investigation it was found that $150, a mandatory charge made from the students Arizona State University (ASU) amounted to multi- million dollar slush funds.

ASU is not the only institution to charge an athletic fee. It is the only one to not give students the choice of opting out of it.

"Coming from someone that doesn't participate in athletics, I don't see why I have to be paying for athletics," ASU student Peter Mare said.

A mandatory fee of $150 a year may not sound like much to some people, but every penny counts when paying towards college tuition fee.
It was found that out-of-state ASU had to bear a 3 percent increase in tuition fee for this school year.

"We're paying out-of-state tuition, we utilized the equity in our home for the first year and it was tough. We had to be creative “parent of ASUstudent, Beth Pfau said.
Cassidy Possehl, ASU's student body president, was asked whether it's fair to charge the athletic fee to people not interested in sports.

But she justified it this way “Those not interested in athletics and have the ability to, maybe one day goes to the games," Possehl added. "Having this be implemented raised teacher assistant pay and for our resident assistants."
