The Arizona Coyotes will appoint John Chayka as their new general manager. 26-year-old Chayka will become the youngest general manager in the NHL history.
Chayka was serving the team as an assistant general manager since last May. The Coyotes already fired GM Don Maloney in April.
Coach Dave Tippett said that, "Because of his age and the company he started, he gets painted with a very analytical brush, but what people are going to find out about John as he becomes more well-known is he's a very smart guy, a very intelligent guy."
"That intelligence leads him to make sure he has a balance, where there's an analytical approach, but there's a common-sense approach."
"This year we started that evolution of it's more about taking a different way of looking at players at times, maybe a contrarian view in looking at instances where we see something," Chayka said.
"There's a lot of tools out there for people that want to be open-minded, progressive, and that's certainly one of the pillars of our approach here," he added.
