Bharath bandh decaled by the opposition parties are received with cold response by the public. There decision for Bandh has also raised cracks in the unity of opposition parties, with Mamatha Banerjee of TMC coming out against the bandh and also TRS and TDP raising there voice for the people who will be put to hardship. Congress also came out against the bandh and said that they will observe Akrosh day. Literally Bandh is being effected to only small states like Kerala and Tripura where left is in power and the bandh turned to be a government sponsored event.
"There will be protest rallies; we have not called for a Bharat Bandh (shutdown). Misinformation has been spread by the BJP which is ill-informed," said senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh.
"The Bharatiya Janata Party has spread the misinformation that the Congress and other opposition parties have called for a bandh. The country is already shut from November 9, a day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the demonetisation move. That's why we don't want a 'Bharat Bandh'," he added.
"The government is working to end the flow of black money and corruption but they (opposition) are talking about Bharat Bandh," Modi said.
The Janata Dal (United) has said that it would not be a part of the nationwide stir. Party president Nitish Kumar said that he doesn’t oppose the demonetisation drive, but wants the government to end the inconvenience caused to the public.
"Knowing the popular support to demonetisation, Congress has changed its tactics from calling for a countrywide bandh to Aakrosh rallies. It is clear that all this is aimed at finding space in the media as they have clearly lost out space in the debating forum of Parliament and the minds of the people," said Union Minister Venkaiah Naidu.
