According to the reports a record no. of 27 Congressmen from the United States will visit India later this month, reflecting the growing bipartisan support to strength the strategic relation in between India and USA.
In two separate delegation top lawmakers from both Republican and Democratic parties will visit India.
Navtej Sarna, Indian ambassador to the United States described the visit as an important development between two nations. He said such visits reflects the effort on the part of US to “strengthen and build” on the bipartisan support that they have in the United States Congress for Indo-US relations.
According to the Congressional records the visit will be the largest ever of US lawmakers to India.
The largest delegation of 19 Congressmen, which will be organized by the prestigiousAspen Institute, would be in India from February 20 to 25 with stops in Capital New Delhi and Hyderabad.
During the visit, the lawmakers are scheduled to have a diverse meetings with top government officials, politicians, members of the think-tank bodies and non-governmental organizations.
From February 20 to 23 another bipartisan Congressional delegation of eight lawmakers which will be led by Bob Goodlatte, who is the chairman of the powerful House Judiciary Committee will be visiting Capital New Delhi and Bengaluru.
The delegation includes Congressman George Holding, Co-Chair of the India Caucus, Jason Smit and Dave Trott.
All four members are from the Republican party.
Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, Congressmen Hank Johnson, David Ciciline and Henry Cuellar are the Democratic members included in the delegation.
Sarna said the visit would allow these lawmakers the first hand view for themselves, about the political vibrancy of India, the economic reforms that are going on and also they will identify the potential areas of engagement.
He said the visit was increasingly important as the new administration comes into.
Sarna also said that they were fortune that there are two delegations totaling 27 Congressmen are traveling to India this month, it was not a small figure, he said.
