On Sunday, NRG Stadium in Houston reverberated with the chants of ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’ and praises for Prime Minister Narendra Modi as soon as he set foot on the stage of ‘Howdy Modi!’, wherein he addressed over 50,000 Indian Americans and United States leaders, including President Donald Trump.
Though scores of Indian Americans are up in arms over President Trump’s harsh immigration policies, PM Modi hailed President’s sense of leadership and on top of that vouched for Trump ahead of 2020 presidential polls, saying ‘Ab ki baar Trump sarkar’ - modifying the 'Ab ki baar Modi sarkar' slogan created for the 2014 Bharatiya Janata Party’s election campaign.
Welcoming President Trump to the ‘Howdy Modi!’ event, PM Modi said:
We have met a few times, and every time he has been the same warm, friendly, energetic and accessible. I admire him also for his sense of leadership and passion for America.
Pitching for the US president he added:
We in India connected well with President Trump and with the words of candidate Trump, ‘Ab ki baar Trump sarkar’, rang loud and clear.
The event, with the tagline 'Shared Dreams, Bright Futures', organized by the non-profit Texas India Forum, emphasized on the tremendous contribution of Indian Americans and the strong and lasting partnership between the U.S. and India.
