Fears of a looming World War 3 are growing after Iranian Major- General Qassem Soleimani, head of the elite Quds Force and architect of Iran’s spreading military influence in the Middle East was killed by the US in an air strike on Baghdad airport as ordered by Donald Trump.
While the Pentagon has confirmed that the US caused the strike, issues were raised by Iraqi militia to slam the US.
US President Donald Trump ordered the killing of Qasem Soleimani, Iran Revolutionary commander, who died in Baghdad “in a decisive defensive action to protect US personnel abroad,” said the Pentagon on Thursday. It also stated that, “this strike was aimed at deterring future Iranian attack plans.”
Minutes later the news regarding the death of Qassem Soleimani has rushed in, US President Donald Trump tweeted an image of the US flag which triggers further speculations that the airstike is an attack by the administration.

The attack has come in the midst of the tensions with the United States after Iran-backed has attacked on the US Embassy in Baghdad. The embassy attack was for two days and it has led to Trump ordering about 750 US soldiers deploying to the Middle East.

The US was ready to launch airstrikes against Iran, in June last year after an American drone has been shot down by Islamic Republic’s forces. The operation was however called off by Trump at the last minute. In July, a British flagged oil tanker Stena Impero in the Strait of Hormuz was seized by Iran and was later released in September along with the 23 crew members.
