Former US President Donald Trump has been facing the heat from the social media giants because of his controversial posts. Some of his posts triggered violence. Social media giant Facebook announced a ban on Donald Trump for two complete years saying that he deserves the punishment for violating the rules set by their platform after the deadly attack made by his supporters on the US Capitol. The two-year ban will be applicable from January 7th. Donald Trump wanted the ban to be reviewed and lifted but Facebook announced a ban for two years.
Facebook vice president of global affairs Nick Clegg issued an official statement that said "Given the gravity of the circumstances that led to Mr. Trump’s suspension, we believe his actions constituted a severe violation of our rules which merit the highest penalty available under the new enforcement protocols". Facebook is quite strict on its rules and it said that there would be no special exceptions for politicians. Facebook will assess the activities of Donald Trump right before lifting the ban if he continues to threaten the public safety. Nick Clegg said that they would extend the ban of Donald Trump considering the public safety. The social media giant also hinted of a permanent ban on Donald Trump if he stays without obeying the rules of Facebook.
