The Emergency use Listing of Covaxin that is manufactured in India is yet to get an approval though it was predicted to be completed in October. A top official from the World Health Organization (WHO) said that the process of evaluation of the vaccine and use will take some more time. The official also said that the right advice will be given to the world though it takes some more time. The World Health Organisation wants the vaccines from all the countries to be recognized and an Emergency Use Listing (EUL) should be given through an advisory process. It is also important for the World Health Organisation to make a recommendation after completing the process of evaluation.
WHO Health Emergencies Programme Executive Director Dr Mike Ryan said that the answer about the EUL of Covaxin is expected by October 26th. WHO Chief Scientist Soumya Swaminathan hinted that the technical advisory group of the WHO will meet to discuss about the EUL of Covaxin on October 26th. Covaxin is an Indian vaccination that is manufactured by Bharat Biotech. Lakhs of people are eagerly waiting for the recommendation of Covaxin to be included in the Emergency Use Listing. The entire data has been submitted by Bharat Biotech weeks ago and the experts of WHO reviewed the data. Ryan said that all the necessary information is collected. The efficacy studies along with the manufacturing process has to be submitted to the WHO by the vaccine manufacturers.
AstraZeneca, Oxford University's Covishield and Bharat Biotech's Covaxin are the two widely used vaccines in India.
