Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris has imposed tougher border security measures to counter repeated political attacks from her Republican rival Donald Trump ahead of the November election. Vice President Harris' comments came Friday during a visit to the U.S.-Mexico border in Douglas, Arizona. Despite his tough stance on border security, Harris said she also supports a "path to citizenship" for immigrants currently in the U.S. illegally. “As President, I will work with Congress to finally create a path to citizenship for hardworking immigrants who have lived here for years,” Harris said. Harris was in Arizona to get a first-hand look at the security situation at the southern border. She criticized former President Trump and said politicians refuse to come together and fix our broken immigration system. Illegal immigration is a problem that has become a growing problem for Americans in recent years due to the unprecedented number of immigrants crossing the southern border. "Now, as president, I will put politics aside to reform our immigration system and find solutions to problems that have long existed...these problems are very important to our country," she said.
As Attorney General of California, I prosecuted transnational criminal organizations that trafficked guns, drugs, and human beings. I know the importance of safety and security, especially at our border.

Harris, 59, will face Trump, 78, in the November 5 presidential election. Harris noted that the conflict in the 2024 election is clear, saying it is a choice between common sense solutions and the same old political game. “In the four years that Donald Trump has been president, he has done nothing to address what is clearly a regional challenge,” she claimed. Harris accused President Trump of trying to solve problems instead of solving them. “The American people deserve a president who prioritizes border security over political games,” she said.
As a former border state attorney general, Harris said she understands what it means for border security and law enforcement to pursue cross-border criminal organizations for gun, drug and human trafficking. Therefore, she called for “targeting the entire fentanyl supply chain” to “drastically reduce the flow of precursor chemicals from China” and protect Americans from the country’s “unimaginable destruction.” “I speak on behalf of all communities across America who want a solution to these problems: the failure of Donald Trump’s leadership is unacceptable, and we cannot tolerate rhetoric in place of solutions,” she said. In a speech the same day, President Trump accused Harris of saying there is no secure border. President Trump said: “It is a bad time for Kamala to show up at the border today. She hasn't been there in four years and showed up today." Ex-President Trump said Harris betrayed his oath of office.
