Story
'Revolver Rani' has a simple story revolving around power, politics, love and revenge. The lead character Alka Singh (played by Kangana Ranaut) is a dacoit-turned-politician. But she loses her seat of Gwalior to the opposition Tomars. The Tomars have cheated the adivasis out of their lands illegally. Herein comes the role of kingmakers who try to resurrect Alka back to power.
At this juncture of her life Rohan (Vir Das) enters the scene. Rohan has Bollywood aspirations and wants to use Alka as a stepping stone for success. Alka on her part uses him to satiate her sexual fantasies. However, the story is about whether Alka is able to attain power or remains a powerless woman in a male-dominated world.
Analysis :
The film can be lauded mostly for Kangana’s performance. It had all the basics of a terrific film but it fails to deliver. The fault lies in the way it unfolds. It's illogical to see a woman with blazing guns one moment and the next moment she is suddenly warm and emotional. Frankly, it kills the fun of the dark ambiance and the humor. The strong character portrayed by Kangna helps the film to hold its ground.
The film is full of satire but never interferes with its narration. It just works as a a calm catalyst that doesn't go overboard. Inspite of its slow screenplay the film makes for a gripping watch.
Performance :
Kangana delivers well on performance. With her stellar performance she brings in the swagger in her dialogue, confidence in her character and plays the role of a sinful, brutal and rogue dacoit-turned-politician effortlessly.
Vir Das plays the love interest of Alka. His role in the film is that of a toy boy. Vir's performance lacked in soul. He could have done a better job with his role.
Piyush Mishra as the as the kingmaker does a memorable job. He flawlessly enacts his role and delivers well the intricacies of his conspiracies and projects himself as a clever person on screen.
Final Word:
If you are a die hard Kangana fan then go for it. Or else you can give this one a miss.
