Story
Dr Mili Chakraborty (played by Sonam Kapoor) is a physiotherapist who travels to Rajasthan to treat an erstwhile Maharaja in his royal palace. Maharaja Shekhar Rathore lost his ability to walk after an accident. At the royal household, Mili meets a grouchy patient, a snooty queen (played by Ratna Pathak) and the ruthless prince Vikram (played by Fawad Khan). Sonam realises that there is nothing wrong with her patient. It's just that he has lost his zeal for life. Khoobsurat is about what brews between her and the prince.
Analysis :
Khoobsurat is romantic comedy involving a fun loving physiotherapist and a royal prince. It's strictly for those who love the genre of romantic comedy. Don't go for it if you have high expectations from the film. The film has a feel good love story and manages to keep you engaged even at its dull moments. Sonam tends to get to your nerves with her cutesy act. Fawad Khan, with his brooding looks and good performance, helps to salvage the film. The heartless prince is charming and will definitely win your heart. The film has a happily ever after ending, which seem quite hurried. But Fawad Khan makes the film watchable and a good experience. The script freely borrows from hollywood films like Princess Diaries and other similar source. It's a typical Disney fairytale. He is handsome, unemotional and chivalrous. She is emotional, impulsive, clumsy – perfect misfit. The chemistry between the lead pair is sizzling. But I do wish Dr Mili was a bit less loud. The film would have been so much more tolerable.-
Performance :
Sonam Kapoor's performances is better than her other films so far. But she cannot get herself completely into the character. But the beautiful smile and innocence that she brings into her character makes Dr Mili believable. Sometimes she almost slips back to her fashionista mode but her genuine smile saves the day. Fawad Khan is brilliant as the Quintessential prince charming. He manages to hold together the fairytale themed rom-com. As Vikram he's insensitive and ruthless, yet sexy and charming, Fawad seem to be pulled out of a Mills and Boons book. His performance is pitch perfect. Ratna Pathak Shah is brilliant in her role as Nirmala Devi Rathore. She plays her character with conviction and finess. Even Kirron Kher as Manju is laudable. She plays her character to the hilt.
Final Word:
Go for it if you have the appetite for romantic comedies and fairytales.
