A 37-storey skyscraper in London is under fire and why?
Famously known as the “Walkie Talkie”, the curvaceous glass tower in the city's insurance district has been facing a flak from the denizens. Apparently, the tower has been emitting such strong beam cast of late that has not only been melting own cars and singing holes in the doormat, but has also smashing tiles and scalding down everything within its area of reach.
Physicists have found a scientific explanation to this bizarre incident, citing that the concave shape of the "Walkie Talkie" is apparently to be blamed for the burning issue. It seems the building focuses sunlight into a concentrated beam that in turn reflects sunlight at such intense levels that can warp panels and melt mirrors. Sunlight is reflected into a very localized point during the noon, creating a pool of light that force Londoners to shield their eyes from the blinding glare.
“Vexed shopkeepers say the so-called "death ray" has blistered their paintwork, singed holes in doormats and caused their tiles to smash,” reports the TOI.
A local entrepreneur said he was shocked to see his Jaguar XJ parked under near the glassy tower melt and warp, blame it on the death-ray.
Interestingly, a reporter even cooked an egg by placing the frying pan in the direct sunlight.
