Emergency dispatchers in Nebraska's Sarpy County were worried when they got a call recently. The caller on the other side didn't say anything but they could hear heavy breathing and scratching sounds.
To their relief, soon they came to know that it was a pet dog named Sophie who had dialled the emergency center.
This was probably the first time that a dog called 911, said Sarpy County 911 Assistant Director Marilyn Gable.
Melissa Acosta, owner of the 2-pound Japanese Chin, said that she thought that Sophie only wanted to curl up beside her on the couch. But soon she realized that her pet dog was scratching on her smartphone.
Next she realizes that someone was asking for the address of the emergency over the phone.
Sophie has nothing to say on the issue. But Acosta found the whole episode embarrassing.
