Miss Philippines Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach, the Miss Universe contestant from the Philippines is the winner of the title and crown “Miss Universe” this year. But on Sunday evening, for a moment it looked like as if it is another win for Colombia.
Ariadna Gutierrez Arevalo, Colombia contestant, was already wearing the crown as the winner of this years’ Miss Universe. Host Steve Harvey returned to apologize immediately.
The winner of this years’ Miss Universe Wurtzbach was left bewildered while she walked along with the crown-wearing Arevalo. Miss Universe from Colombia of last year removed the crown from Arevalo and placed it on the head of Wurtzbach head instead.
Women between 19 to 27 years age, representing 80 countries took part in the competition. For the first time in 2015, viewers at home casted their votes besides four in-person celebrity judges in the competition.
The Miss Universe Organization was co-owned by NBCUniversal and Donald Trump until early in 2015. In June, the real-estate developer offended Hispanics while making anti-immigrant remarks in announcement of his Republican presidential run.
Eventually, Spanish-language network Univision pulled out the broadcast and NBC cut business ties with Trump. It was then the “Celebrity Apprentice” former star sued both companies. He settled with NBC in September. It included buying the network’s stake in the pageants.
Trump also sold the organization that includes the Miss Universe, Miss Teen USA pageants and Miss USA to entertainment company WME-IMG.
