Arizona Rescuers and Volunteers Heading To Florida Ahead Of Hurricane Irma

Following the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey, Arizona rescuers and volunteers are heading to Florida in forecast of Hurricane Irma.

As of Wednesday Hurricane Irma was a category 5 hurricane that has been hitting Caribbean islands and is projected to hit Florida soon.

Arizona Task Force 1, a Phoenix Fire Department urban search and rescue team has tweeted on Wednesday that it received orders from Federal Emergency Management Agency to depart from San Antonio for Florida because of concerns about Hurricane Irma.

As of now, AZ-TF1 does not have a specified location where they could be deployed in Florida. The team assisted in search and rescue missions in Houston area, they arrived in Texas on Aug 26 and have been stationed there since. They joined with local Fire and Sheriff’s departments as well as others to assist in the relief efforts.

The Red Cross is also preparing to assist in Florida. They gathered 70 volunteers from Arizona to help with cleanup in Texas. Officials say that 97 volunteers of Red cross are deployed; 11 of those will be sent to assist Hurricane Irma. 68 out of 97 are Arizonans.
