Munich Prosecutors Arrested Audi Chief Rupert Stadler in Diesel Emissions Probe

Munich, a city in Germany prosecutors on Monday apprehended chief executive of German carmaker Audi Rupert Stadler since investigators saw the peril that he might seek to suppress grounds in connection with a diesel emissions probe.
Three years ago, the scandal erupted when it came out that cars had been fitted with devices designed to cheat emissions tests. Though the devices were initially found in Volkswagen cars, merely its Audi subsidiary has likewise been entangled in the scandal.
Earlier this month, it admitted that another 60,000 A6 and A7 models with diesel engines have emission software issues. That is on the top the 850,000 recalled past year by Audi, of which only some have been found to require modification.
"The suspect has been seen by a judge, who has ordered him to be remanded in custody," the prosecutor's office said in a statement.
The prosecutors further said Stadler would be interrogated by Wednesday, once he had spoken to his attorneys.
Earlier this week, to reckon Stadler among the suspects accused of fraud and mendacious advertising the prosecutor's office widened its emissions cheating investigation into Volkswagen's luxury brand Audi.
