The US court's summons to the Indian government regarding Khalistani terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun's civil lawsuit, which alleges a plot to murder him, has been deemed "completely unwarranted" by the Ministry of External Affairs. The Foreign Secretary, Vikram Misri, stated that when these issues were first brought to their attention, the Indian government took action, and a high-level committee is currently engaged in the matter. Misri emphasized that this is a "completely unwarranted case," and he drew attention to Pannun's background, noting that he is from an unlawful organization and is known for making incendiary speeches and threats against Indian leaders and institutions. The Indian government had designated Pannun as a terrorist in 2020.

The US and Canada informed India about a case filed in a US court against an individual allegedly linked to an Indian official. The Indian government has expressed concern over this matter and launched a high-level investigation. The External Affairs Minister stated that while India is looking into the issue, it does not believe it will affect the positive trajectory of India-US relations. The US Ambassador to India also affirmed that this matter will not impact the two countries' ties.
