A trial court in Al Ain, Abu Dhabi awarded death sentence to ten youths from different parts of Punjab, Indian for killing a Pakistani man. All the accused on death row were working as labourers in the UAE.
All the men were awarded capital punishment on October 26. The Pakistani national was murdered after a scuffle over bootlegging in mid-2015.
The convicts' case is being pursued by a Dubai-based hotelier S P Singh Oberoi, who heads Sarbat Da Bhala Trust. An appeal has been filed in the high court.
Mr. Oberoi has saved 74 people, including 50 Punjabis, from the gallows or life imprisonment by settling their cases.
He said that, "We are trying to contact the family of the man who was killed." If the youths fail to get relief from the courts then paying blood money to the family of the victim is the only remedy, he added.
