Railway Minister Mukul Roy said today the fare hike proposed in the recent rail budget has been rolled back.
Making the announcement in the Lok Sabha, Mukul Roy said the proposed hike in the sleeper, suburban, AC chair car and AC 3-tier fares has been withdrawn.
It may be recalled that Mukul Roy’s predecessor Dinesh Trivedi proposed the hike in the rail fares when he presented the budget on March 14. This has irked Trinamul Congress supremo and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamatha Banerjee who demanded roll back of the proposed hike. Later, it led to the exit of Trivedi from the Union Cabinet.
Mukul Roy made the announcement of roll back during his reply to the discussion on rail budget. (J)
