Arizona is home to some of the traditional foods in North America. The cooking of Arizona, indeed, is close to that of Mexican style. Since Sonora, a place which lies in the border of Arizona is famous for its wheat cultivation, so Arizona tends to make tortilla de harina, wheat tortillas.

Arizona has great diversity of wild and farm raised heritage foods than most other state. The date groves and lettuce fields around Yuma are barely above sea level, while the more than 10,000-feet-high San Francisco Peaks provide perfect growing conditions for a variety of wild mushrooms.

Below is few Arizona’s traditional food.

1. Sugaro and Prickly Pear Cactus
Prickly pear cactus pads and flowers are said to be great sources of antioxidants, whether eaten in the form of jellies, salsas or margaritas. In fact, some evidence shows that eating prickly pear pads can help lower “bad” cholesterol.

2. Mesquite Pod Flour
A mesquite seed pod is 20 to 30 percent protein, rich in lysines and amino acids, and full of “slow release” galactomannins that reduce blood sugar levels and increase the insulin sensitivity of diabetics.
