Hot yoga is a form of yoga endorsed by celebrities such as Gwyneth Paltrow and Andy Murray for its apparent benefits in weight loss and flexibility. However, according to scientists at University of Wisconsin in America, it does not have any extra benefits.
Though practicing hot yoga does not harm the body, it gives no added advantages compared to other types of yoga. This was highlighted because many feel that the amount of sweat after a session is directly representative of the amount of calories burnt. That's not true, says American Council on Exercise chief science officer Dr Cedric Bryant.
A small study, funded by American Council on Exercise, explored two dozen healthy adults while they were practicing either hot yoga or regular yoga. Findings implied that core temperature did not increased more when hot yoga was performed.
Normal yoga seems to contribute more towards flexibility, muscular strength, balance and endurance.
