Star batsman KL Rahul is expected to remain with the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) team for the upcoming 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) season, but he will not be the team's captain. The sources close to the team understand that the pressure of captaincy is the main reason why Rahul has decided to step down from the role, as he wants to focus more on his batting performance. However, it is still uncertain who will lead the team in the next IPL season 2025. The Lucknow franchise has confirmed that Rahul will be retained, but the captaincy position remains undecided. Krunal Pandya and Nicholas Pooran are the two prominent names being considered for the captaincy role.
Rahul met Goenka, the owner of Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), in Kolkata to discuss matters. They had a lengthy conversation of around four hours. Afterward, Rahul left for Bengaluru's National Cricket Academy to begin practicing for the Duleep Trophy. Rahul will be playing for Team 'A', led by Shubman Gill. There had been a disagreement between Rahul and the LSG owner in front of the fans. The sources suggest that the owner was not satisfied with Rahul's captaincy, as LSG failed to qualify for the playoffs despite being in a good position. Following the IPL, Rahul did not perform well and was not selected for India's ICC Men's T20 World Cup squad, which they won in Barbados. He is now hoping to secure a spot in the Indian T20 team.
