According to the report, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) captain KL Rahul is unsure about whether he would accept a retention offer from the franchise ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction. Previously, it was reported that Rahul was set to be dropped from the franchise's auction retention list, based on a joint decision by head coach Justin Langer and mentor Zaheer Khan. However, a contradictory report suggests that Rahul recently met with LSG's owners, and he is still undecided on whether he would accept the retention offer. With the retention lists yet to be announced, a final decision on Rahul's status with the franchise is still pending. Earlier, it was reported that an analysis by Langer and Zaheer concluded that Rahul's prolonged stay at the crease has negatively impacted LSG's chances of winning, leading to the decision to not retain him. Rahul's strike rate has been a point of contention for the franchise.
Since the 2019 IPL season, Rahul has scored over 140 runs. In 2023, his runs dropped as low as 113. If Rahul and LSG decide to part ways, he will be one of the prominent Indian players in the auction pool. Rahul has accumulated 4,683 IPL runs over the years, with an average of 45 and a strike rate of 134. LSG are reportedly planning to retain the promising Indian fast bowler Mayank Yadav as one of their top 3 players. Given the impressive performance of West Indian batsman Nicholas Pooran, he could also be retained by LSG.
