Indian bowler Jasprit Bumrah performed exceptionally well on the second day of the third Test against Australia in Brisbane. Bumrah took 5 wickets for 72 runs, helping India fight back after Travis Head's impressive 152-run innings. Australia ended the day at 405 for 7, with Alex Carey and Mitchell Starc still batting. Bumrah's impressive spell with the second new ball allowed India to bounce back. Australia were 316 for 3 when Bumrah's performance turned the game around. This was Bumrah's 12th five-wicket haul in Test cricket and his 8th in SENA countries, making him the first Indian bowler to achieve this feat. He surpassed the record of legendary Kapil Dev, who had 7 five-wicket hauls. Australian batsmen Travis Head and Steve Smith had put on a strong 241-run partnership for the fourth wicket, with Head scoring a magnificent 152 and Smith a determined 101, putting Australia in a strong position to take a 2-1 lead in the five-Test series.
It appears that India has little chance of winning the match and can only realistically aim for a draw. After most of the first day's play was disrupted by rain, India made a strong start on Sunday, taking three wickets in the first hour. However, Head and Smith batted India out of the contention despite an excellent bowling performance by Jasprit Bumrah (5-72) with the second new ball after tea. At the end of the day's play, Alex Carey was on 45 and Mitchell Starc was on seven.
