Dolby Laboratories has revealed its plans to introduce Dolby Cinema in India, with several theaters expected to feature this technology in the coming months. Movie enthusiasts will be able to enjoy enhanced visual clarity through Dolby Vision and a richer, more immersive auditory experience thanks to Dolby Atmos. These advancements are anticipated to elevate the cinema experience significantly, allowing customers to pay extra for superior image and sound quality. Earlier this year, the company debuted the first Dolby-certified post-production facility in Hyderabad. In a press announcement, Dolby stated that it has collaborated with six cinema operators to implement Dolby Cinema across India soon. The participating venues include City Pride in Pune, Allu Cineplex in Hyderabad, LA Cinema in Trichy, AMB Cinemas in Bengaluru, EVM Cinemas in Kochi and G Cineplex in Ulikkal.
Visitors to these improved theaters will benefit from two of Dolby's essential technologies: Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos. Dolby Vision enhances the viewing experience by delivering greater contrast, increased brightness, and a broader color spectrum. Meanwhile, Dolby Atmos elevates sound quality within the theater by introducing dynamic audio, which facilitates a more immersive environment. Dolby emphasizes that Dolby Cinema is designed to present films exactly as the creators intended, promising that every seat will provide a “best seat in the house” experience due to its innovative design.
Michael Archer, VP of Worldwide Cinema Sales and Partner Management at Dolby Laboratories, remarked, “The launch of Dolby Cinema in India is a pivotal moment for the country's entertainment sector.” Since establishing its first Dolby Cinema venue in 2014, the company has joined forces with 35 exhibitors across 14 countries, including India. In January, the inaugural Dolby-certified post-production facility for cinema in India was opened in collaboration with Annapurna Studios. Furthermore, Dolby Laboratories indicated that there are currently 24 Dolby Atmos theatrical mixing facilities dispersed throughout the country, ready to assist in producing content formatted for Dolby Cinema.
