Rohit Sharma, India's Test captain, faced challenges during the recent Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia. Despite joining the team for the second Test after paternity leave, Sharma struggled with the bat and his leadership, leading to India's downward performance in the series. Sharma scored only 31 runs across three Tests, with a low average of 6.00. This poor performance prompted criticism from former cricketer Sunil Gavaskar, who questioned Sharma's approach as both a batsman and captain. Gavaskar also expressed concerns about Sharma's absence from the Sydney Test, suggesting it might be time for someone else to lead the team. Reportedly, Sharma was unhappy with the criticism and approached the BCCI to file a formal complaint against Gavaskar, stating that external factors had impacted his performance during the tour.

Sunil Gavaskar's criticism of Sharma was unnecessary, and Sharma complained to the BCCI about it. This added significant pressure, leading Sharma to share the details with the BCCI. This comes after Sharma's poor performance in the Ranji Trophy 2024-25 season, where he failed to score against Jammu & Kashmir, raising concerns about his form. However, Sharma is committed to getting back on track and is using the current domestic season to regain his batting form.
