Ahead of the OnePlus 13 launch scheduled for January, OnePlus is addressing a major issue facing all carriers: the dreaded display green line issue. The company has confirmed that its phones are affected by green lines on the displays and is trying to reduce and minimize the problem through special technology and durability solutions. We also offer a free lifetime warranty on the displays of our phones, including the OnePlus 13, to give users peace of mind about their OnePlus phones. The company calls its solution “OnePlus Green Line Worry-Free Solution”. This includes not only technology solutions but also some after-sales commitments for users who purchase OnePlus mobile phones. “OnePlus is the first brand in the industry to respond quickly with technology solutions that reduce display risks in the Indian market,” said Robin Liu, CEO, OnePlus India.
At a briefing in Shenzhen, China, OnePlus presented to the tech media and tech influencers all the steps the company has taken to mitigate the green line problem. These measures include changes to the way displays connect in future OnePlus smartphones like the OnePlus 13, as well as more rigorous durability testing. There is also a lifetime warranty in case there are any issues with the phone's display. OnePlus says that the reason phones of all brands in India are suffering from green line issues is likely due to a combination of factors rather than a single factor. This is mainly due to the aging of the OLED. “Due to the hot and humid conditions in India, some older AMOLED displays may wear out faster than others,” said Ramagopala Reddy, vice president, OnePlus India. “Aging is one of the reasons this problem was only recognized by the industry last year. However, OnePlus achieves the fastest response times in the industry to address these types of issues.”
One of the most important steps OnePlus has taken to slow the degradation of OLED displays due to moisture and oxygen entering the display layer is the introduction of a new protective layer. A company spokesperson said: "A significant development is the integration of a reinforced edge bonding layer that uses high quality PVX edge sealing material in all OnePlus AMOLED displays." The PVX layer acts as a barrier, significantly reducing moisture and oxygen ingress over time and extends the life of the screen. We have worked hard to ensure that OnePlus devices meet these needs said Thom, former director of the company's research and development center in Hyderabad before becoming vice president of OnePlus.
To ensure that the solution works, the company also uses rigorous Double 85 testing. As part of industrial testing, the phone is kept indoors at 85 percent humidity and 85 degrees. Typically, phones are stored for 21 days, but OnePlus has extended the testing period several times to artificially test the OnePlus 13's display to see how high temperatures and humidity stress the phone. The company believes that its technology and durability solutions ensure that its mobile phones minimize the incidence of green line problems compared to other products in the industry, while ensuring that consumers receive a guarantee. And OnePlus aims to provide that peace of mind through its free lifetime warranty. Whether users own an older model or are considering the latest OnePlus 13, the company says they can rest assured that their investment is protected from display issues. The company says it's a commitment to users that its competitors can't match.
“Last year, we took the bold step of becoming the first smartphone brand to offer a lifetime warranty on older models,” said Robin Liu, CEO, OnePlus India. With this in mind, we would like to extend this warranty to all OnePlus smartphones and reiterate our belief in the quality and reliability of our products. More importantly, as a community-focused brand, these actions will help our users. Get peace of mind by offering a free trial for the life of your OnePlus device”.
