According to the company, the OnePlus Open 2 will not be introduced as the next iteration of its first foldable device in 2025. In a recent update on the OnePlus Community forum, a product manager responded to rumors surrounding the OnePlus Open 2 by confirming that there are no plans to release a foldable phone this year. The original Open model debuted in 2023, followed by a marginally enhanced version known as the OnePlus Open Apex Edition in 2024. There is currently no announcement regarding when the next foldable device will be available. Vale G, the Product Manager for OnePlus Open, indicated that the decision has been made to forgo the launch of a foldable phone in 2025. Initially, speculation suggested that the OnePlus Open 2 would be a rebranded version of the Oppo Find N5, set to debut in China and globally on February 20.
The community post also mentioned that the Oppo Find N5 is poised to dominate the foldable market this year, as the two companies merged in 2021. Anticipated to be the most slender foldable phone upon its release next week, the absence of a new foldable from OnePlus this year implies that the anticipated Galaxy Z Fold 7, planned for later this year, may not encounter substantial competition in the US. However, in other markets, the Oppo Find N5 and various foldable offerings from brands like Honor and Huawei will rival Samsung's foldable lineup. OnePlus has confirmed ongoing support for the OnePlus Open, which launched in 2023, assuring users that it will continue to provide software updates, security enhancements, and hardware services for this initial foldable phone.
The company also clarified that its "decision to pause on foldable for this generation" does not signify a halt in the production of foldable devices. "We remain dedicated to integrating these innovations into our future offerings," the company stated, highlighting the advanced materials and technologies featured in the upcoming Oppo Find N5.
