The microblogging site Twitter has been changing its lenience towards the revenge porn or other non-consensual, intimate photos on its platform to restricted norms on these areas. The site has been termed as the pro-porn and abusive content in recent conferences by human rights and women associations.

According to the new usage rules, posting of revenge porn or any other non-consensual, intimate photos on its platform is not an easy affair. The site not directs users that images or videos that are considered and treated as private under applicable laws will be treated as personal information and posting of such material will be in violation of the site's policy. If they are forcibly posted or published without the subject’s consent, the action shall be considered as offending the usage rules.

Twitter CEO Dick Costolo had issued a memo firm-wide, in which he reportedly said the company has got bad name over the abusive content. A report on BuzzFeed further elaborated on the recent update in Twitter rules and stated that users can now report possible violations through Twitter's usual reporting process without relying on the DMCA (Digital Millennium Copyright Act).

Now the users can approach the company help centre to put forward the claims and concerns. Twitter will hide that post from public view and review the requests from both the sides.

If any photos or videos have been mentioned as public, those can be circulated. Twitter has also said that it will provide the IP address of the offender's account to the victim or the law enforcement agencies, only if and when required by valid legal processes. The Twitter Trust & Safety Team will offer 24X7 support and take action in response to specific images or videos considered in violation of the new policy.

So far, fake account holders and rival persons have been defaming the celebrities and others, by posting personal and intimate photos and videos of those victims. If any user found to violate the new norms, the account shall be blocked and locked till the deletion of such abusive content within a specific period of time.
