On his first visit to India, Mustafa Suleiman, Head of Artificial Intelligence at Microsoft, shared his vision for the possible applications of AI in the Indian market. He spoke about his views on AI companions at the Microsoft Building AI Companions for India event in Bengaluru on Wednesday. Mr. Suleiman outlined an ambitious vision for the future of artificial intelligence. He claimed that AI companions will create a new class of digital experiences tailored to each individual's interests and unlike anything the technology has created before. He emphasized that India is one of the fastest growing markets and talented engineers and developers work there. “My personal vision for AI is how it can work with each of us to make each of us feel more supported, smarter and more capable,” he told the gathering. Speaking to S. Krishnan, Secretary, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India, Mustafa Suleman said that India is one of the growth markets for Microsoft. We also have one of the strongest R&D teams in the world. “We have incredibly talented engineers and developers and are increasingly bringing in social scientists, psychologists, therapists, screenwriters, comedians and other creators,” he added, who play a role in the design and creation process. When asked about possible applications for artificial intelligence, Suleiman, who came to Microsoft from DeepMind at Google, said the Internet now makes information easily accessible to everyone and that information can be synthesized, saying that this is consistent with the way how people learn. And use information that applies both at work and at home. “For example, the M365 Copilot does a very good job of deriving operational data,” he added. During the event, he also unveiled a redesigned version of Microsoft Copilot. In March, Microsoft named Mustafa Suleiman to lead its new consumer AI division. The tech giant has released several updates to Copilot over the past few months.
