Story

In the film "Guntur Kaaram," the character Vyra Vasundhara, portrayed by Ramya Krishna, makes the difficult decision to leave her son Ramana, played by Mahesh Babu, and her husband for undisclosed reasons. Only Vasundhara knows the true motive behind her departure, which adds a layer of mystery and intrigue to the story.

As Ramana grows up, his life takes an unexpected turn when his influential politician grandfather, Venkataswamy, essayed by Prakash Raj, reenters the picture. He becomes a dominant figure in Ramana's life and exerts pressure on him to sever all ties with his mother. The conflict arises as Ramana must grapple with his loyalty and emotions towards his mother, despite his grandfather's influence and strict instructions.

The reason behind Vasundhara's decision to leave Ramana remains a central mystery throughout the film, keeping the audience engaged and curious. Ramana's struggle to reconcile his love for his mother and his obedience to his grandfather forms the core of his character arc.

Analysis

Guntur Kaaram, the highly anticipated collaboration between Trivikram and Mahesh Babu, seems to fall short of expectations. Trivikram, known for his unique storytelling, seems to be stuck in a routine formula of a "separated wife" and the protagonist's efforts to reconcile with his family. Unfortunately, Guntur Kaaram follows the same template without offering anything new or exceptional.

The first half of the movie is average at best, with a single thread of obtaining a signature dragging on until the interval. The reasoning behind seeking a signature to sever ties for political gains lacks logic and seems far-fetched. Neither the comedy nor the dialogues manage to impress in the first half, though Vennela Kishore does provide a few laughs in rare instances. The interval fails to deliver the expected impact, leaving the audience wanting more. The characters in the movie are reminiscent of the director's previous works, lacking originality.

The weak first half puts a heavy burden on the latter half, which proves to be even more lackluster. Although there are a few fights and forced comedy scenes that may entertain in parts, they fail to elevate the overall experience. From Haridas' fight and comedy to the climax, nothing truly stands out. The songs, "Dum Masala" and "Kurchi Madathapetti," might appeal to the mass fans.

The movie lacks Trivikram's trademark comedy and one-liners. The plot, narration, and dialogues, which are usually the selling points of Trivikram's films, disappoint in this outing. The climax dialogues, expected to save the movie, fall flat and do not meet the director's usual standard. Additionally, the second half is filled with repetitive scenes and forced comedic episodes. Thaman's background music fails to make a lasting impression, further adding to the disappointment of Guntur Kaaram.

Performance

Mahesh Babu truly shines as 'Ramana Gadu'. He fully embodies the mass character and delivers a flawless performance. Unfortunately, the weak storyline and confusing narration by Trivikram fail to do justice to Mahesh's efforts. Sreeleela's role lacks substance, but she excels in her strong suit - dancing. As always, she impresses with her impressive dance moves. Meenakshi Chaudhary has a small role, but she performs adequately. Ramya Krishna, Prakash Raj, and Murli Sharma deliver their usual performances. Jayaram's character feels repetitive. Jagapathi Babu's role is surprisingly ordinary, which is unexpected. Ajay, Vennela Kishore, and Eeswari Rao fulfill their roles dutifully.

Both the director and the music director have failed to deliver with Guntur Kaaram. The film disappoints in every aspect, with a dull storyline filled with forced humor and an exhausting narrative. The background music lacks any vitality or stability, failing to enhance any scene. While Dum Masala and Kurchi Madathapetti songs are somewhat tolerable, the rest of the songs are forgettable.
