Story

"Ooru Peru Bhairavakona" is a thrilling Telugu movie that revolves around the life of Basavalingam, a former thief who transforms into a stunt double. He unexpectedly falls in love with Bhumi (Varsha Bollamma), leading to a series of events that change their lives forever. While attempting to flee from a robbery, Basavalingam, along with his friend John (Viva Harsha) enter a village called Bhairavakona. Analysis

Ooru Peru Bhairavakona is a film in the thriller-comedy genre that aims to entertain audiences with its intriguing plot and mix of horror and comedy elements. However, the film falls short in many aspects, having more flaws than advantages. The first half of the film sets up the mystery and intrigue, but the story becomes slow-paced with extended focus on jewelry and girl drama in Bhairavakona. The mystical concepts and visuals in the village feel repetitive, as many recent films have explored similar themes. The comedy by Vennela Kishore, though enjoyable in some parts, fails to consistently engage the audience. It becomes evident that hints and foreshadowing will be revealed in the second half.

The initial concept before the interval shows promise but lacks impactful execution. The visual effects during the interval are decent, but fail to deliver the anticipated excitement and intensity. Some of the jump scares and scary visuals do work, adding to the film's appeal. However, the overall story loses momentum in the second half, only regaining it when it returns to Bhairavakona. While a few scenes generate curiosity, the plot gradually becomes predictable, including the comedy elements. The climax does offer a decent twist, adding some intrigue to the plot.

The director's attempt to blend a simple Bethala-Vikramarka-style story with comedy has mixed results. While it works in some parts, the inclusion of comedy in serious episodes affects the overall engagement and depth of the plot. Leaving logic aside, the main story of Bhumi and her village lacks conviction and fails to provide sufficient depth. Ooru Peru Bhairavakona does have its moments of thrills and chills, but the flat narrative in many scenes diminishes their impact. Overall, the film can be considered a time-pass horror comedy, where both horror and comedy elements work only to a limited extent.

Performance

Sundeep Kishan delivers a decent performance in the role of a thief in Ooru Peru Bhiaravakona. Having done similar roles in the past, it's not a challenging one for him, but he manages to handle it well. On the other hand, Varsha Bollamma, despite being the main female lead, has a very limited role which appears artificial and restricts her scope to perform. Kavya Thapar, in contrast, has a lengthy role but seems to be more of a screen-filling character rather than making a strong impact. Viva Harsha, playing the sidekick, fails to impress with his performance, and Vennela Kishore's routine role falls short, with most of his rhyming dialogues not hitting the mark. Vadivukkarasi, Ravishankar, and the rest of the supporting cast do what is necessary for their respective characters.

The story of Ooru Peru Bhiaravakona is normal, but it is narrated crisply within a reasonable run time. The director's concept is unique, but it falters in execution, resulting in a number of slowdowns throughout the film. The decision to maintain comedy throughout seems to have affected the impact of the serious scenes. However, the background music is commendable and the visual effects are decent. The Nijamene Chebutunna song, sung by Sid Sriram, stands out as a good addition. The cinematography also adds to the overall quality of the film.
