Analysis
'Gangs Of Godavari' has created good expectations due to its classic gangster drama setting and of course the Vishwak Sen elements. Although Vishwak Sen's role suits his style and aggressiveness, Gangs of Godavari is an average drama due to the lack of plot and narrative. The first half does a good job of setting up the plot and establishing the characters. Although the film has nuances of the previous film 'M Dharmaraju MA', 'Gangs Of Godavari' has its own weaknesses. There are good parts in the first half, like the comedy about the kidnapping and the gang fight in the police station.
The continuity is broken by frequent abrupt cuts and many scenes have no effect. Before one scene triggers any kind of shock or emotion, we jump to the next. An inconsistent script and broken editing played spoil sport. There are much less commercial scenes, such as the heroine's love for a local gangster. The second half is confused with a pattern story. The scene seems almost rushed. The part about the conspiracy to kill the sitting MLAs as if they were street mobs seems contrived. The clever plans between the protagonist and his rival lost their impact due to the rushed script. “Pre-Climax” and “Climax” are also not convincing enough to end on a good note. Overall, “Gangs Of Godavari” starts off on an interesting note but quickly slips due to the lack of depth in the scenes. Where the emotional drama should shine, it fails. Apart from a few fights and a few dialogues, there is nothing special about “Gangs Of Godavari”.
Performance
Vishwak Sen performed well in the first half and showed his crafty side. Vishwak Sen portrayed the Godavari accent very well. The second half was unremarkable and Vishwak Sen could not make his mark there. The sloppy script does nothing to enhance the performance. Anjali had a few scenes in the beginning, but most of Neha Shetty's role is missing. Anjali has done a great job in her role. Neha Shetty played the main character and played a good character. There is no dialogue in the second half. Goparaju Ramana, Nasser, Aadhi, Sai and others supported him in their roles.
Gangs of Godavari stumbles in its cinematography and screenplay. The first parts were optimistic, but quickly became hopeless. Camera performance is good. The songs are not very good. The song with Aisha Khan is also not that good. The well shot first half has good dialogues and action blocks.
Final Word
Gangs of Godavari is a pale and unengaging gangster drama that falls flat.
