The Telugu actor Allu Arjun was sent to jail for 14 days after being arrested on Friday in connection with a deadly theater stampede in Hyderabad last week, which resulted in the death of a woman and injury to her nine-year-old son. The court rejected the actor's request to delay his arrest until Monday. Arjun was taken from his home to the police station, where he claimed the officers followed him into his bedroom. The actor's father, filmmaker Allu Arvind, and other family members were present during the arrest. The Hyderabad Police had filed charges of culpable homicide and voluntarily causing hurt against Arjun and several others, including his security team and the theater management. The complaint alleged that the actor and the theater failed to inform the police about the film screening. However, Arjun's office and the theater officials have insisted that the police were informed.
The police were notified about plans for the film's lead actors, Allu Arjun and Rashmika Mandanna, to visit the theatre at 9:30 pm. On December 11, a petition was filed in the Telangana High Court, requesting the case to be dismissed. The investigation will now center on two key issues: whether Mr. Arjun had obtained police authorization to appear at the theatre hosting a special screening of his movie 'Pushpa 2: The Rule,' and whether he had permission to interact with fans outside the theatre, which is located in an area with other cinema halls.
The husband of the woman who died has decided to withdraw the complaint that led to the case being filed. In a video, the husband, Bhaskar, told reporters that he did not know Allu Arjun would be arrested based on his complaint. He said he is willing to drop the case, as Allu Arjun had no involvement in the stampede that resulted in his wife's death. The stampede occurred after the popular actor made an unexpected appearance at the theater screening "Pushpa 2: The Rule." A 35-year-old woman was killed, and her 9-year-old son was injured as the crowd rushed to catch a glimpse of Allu Arjun. The Hyderabad Police Commissioner stated that the theater management and the actor's team did not inform the police about the visit, and there were no separate entry or exit arrangements, even though they knew Allu Arjun would be coming. According to the police, Allu Arjun arrived at the theater around 9:30 PM.
A large crowd gathered at the main entrance, eager to catch a glimpse of the individual. The security team tried to push the crowd back, which worsened the situation. A woman named Revathi and her son felt overwhelmed by the crowd and were rescued by the police, who provided emergency medical assistance and took them to a nearby hospital. Meanwhile, the individual had already entered the theater, but the crowd continued to grow in the lobby.
