BJP having a slight upper edge at the moment. Counting shows BJP leads in 5 and won 4, while Congress has a lead in 3 and won 2 in a total of 40 constituencies.

At the moment, situation looks even in Goa with the counting for the 40 odd constituencies being taken up in the union territory. In fact Goa polled the maximum number of votes with the voting percent recorded at 82.8 percent.  The ruling Congress party with its ally NCP felt the huge turnover would only mean welcoming the party. But initial results disapprove the belief with scales pegged evenly.

The Congress working president Francisco Sardinha on Monday is said to have said, `There is no doubt in my mind that this is our mandate. The Congress-NCP's good governance and positive campaign has worked in our favor. The people have come out in a huge number against the BJP's negative campaign.’

But BJP which thought otherwise felt the huge turnout was due to the public mindset desiring the Change. BJP general secretary Govind Parvatkar said "You just wait and watch on Tuesday. Do you need a bigger indictment of a government than a total rejection by more than 80 percent of the population?"
